RIGOR MORTIS
(as part of the Midsumma Festival 2012)
Written by Christopher Bryant, directed by Christopher Bryant and Cassandra Ramanthan.

“We should move somewhere new when the insurance payment for Mommy’s death comes through: just you and me, daddy. Somewhere far away from all this death and destruction. The tropics. Or Guam. Oh, that sounds super nice, doesn’t it?”

From the team that brought Manhattan’s booming theatre district to a dingy Collingwood car-park (“Cecilia! The She-Bitch of Broadway”, 2011) and who’re currently working on one of Shakespeare’s most overlooked tragicomedies (“Measure for Measure” at the Melbourne Fringe, 2011) comes a trash theatre experience like no other. Set in glamorous 60s Hollywood, “RIGOR MORTIS” tells the age-old tale of a nuclear family tragically torn apart by zombies. Cadence Baudelaire has it all: a loving husband, a beautiful daughter and a three-figure salary. But then, Cadence dies. For a while, anyway…

Like “Mommie, Dearest” by way of “Night of the Living Dead” and “The Exorcist”, “RIGOR MORTIS” promises to entertain, enthral, and shock.

WARNING: if at any time during “RIGOR MORTIS” you feel light-headed, queasy, or as if you are about to faint, keep repeating to yourself: “it’s only a play. It’s only a play. It’s only a play.”
