When Harold Pinter traveled to Turkey with fellow playwright Arthur Miller to investigate the torture and persecution of Turkish Writers, he met two young women who claimed the torture of political prisoners had not ever occurred in Istanbul and that if in fact it had; the victims in question had probably deserved it.
Through his rage and frustration at such an encounter he wrote an overtly political one act statement about the human rights abuses of a totalitarian government, “One for the Road” was the result.
Premiering at Lyric Stdio, London in 1084, One for the Road, is the debut production of Pine Heights Theatre.
Pine heights Theatre is an amateur theatre company started by Paul Henri Fischer, with a creative team made up of Fabio Gueli, James Ballard and James Stanistreet – all 2010 graduates from The National Theatre Drama School.
